In all honesty, with the Maui winds world class golf isn’t one of the first activities that come to mind.  But seriously… golfing on Maui can be unbelievable!

Well, probably not quite as good as the Big Island, but a handful of courses are very similar and will blow away most of the courses you’ve played on the mainland.  The secret here is to play early, the wind will predict your demise and as the day goes on your game can quickly take a turn for the worse. 

Overall, South Maui courses offer the best golf on the island and are usually calm in the mornings with winds picking up around 11am or later.  Sunshine is almost guaranteed.  West Maui courses can offer similar weather with significantly more wind and passing showers are common.

At South Maui courses, greens break toward the ocean, no matter what you think you’re seeing.  They may even break uphill if it’s toward the sea.  Also, dress codes are enforced here.

South Maui Courses

If you only get a chance to golf once on Maui, we recommend South Maui.  The exceptional morning weather, views of Kaho’olawe and Molokini, and three of the best courses on Maui make the golfing incredible!  If you’re a great golfer, you’ll prefer Makena South.  If you’re a decent golfer, you’ll probably prefer Wailea’s Gold or Emerald courses.
